Robert Lee Pierce, Sr., affectionately called, ‘Pops”, age 83, of Douglasville, passed away, July 1, 2010. He was born March 6, 1927, in Columbus, GA, to the late Harry Edward and Mattie Mae Sewell Pierce. He was a United States Army Air Force Veteran of World War II. He worked for many years for a trucking company and for a service station located here in Douglasville. Mr. Pierce was a member of the Mableton Moose Lodge and the American Legion, Mableton Post 264 and he attended the Believer’s Church of Douglasville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost fifty years, Margaret Lee Burney Pierce; and his brother, Carl Edward Pierce.

Survivors are his children, Deborah Pierce Jones, Marthe Jane Banks, Robert Lee ‘Bobby’ Pierce, Jr., Dale Jaro Pierce, all of Douglasville, and Melody Lynn Brannon of Villa Rica; brother, Charles H. Pierce of Warner Robbins; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 2:30 PM from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gene Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosehaven Memorial Park with Military Honors. Michael Cook, Lamar Barber, Steve Cook, David Lyons, James Brooks, Dale Pierce, Josh Brooks and David Beck will serve as Pallbearers.

The family will receive friends, Friday, July 2, 2010 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
