Obituary for Samuel M. Timms

Samuel “Sam” Merrell Timms, age 91, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017. He was born on November 24, 1925 in Anderson, SC, son of the late Samuel “Sam” Lewis Weslin Timms and Icie Cornelia Smith Timms. He was a graduate of Clemson University with a Textile Engineering Degree. Sam served in the U. S. Army Air Corp during World War II. After the War, he owned several spinning mills in North and West Georgia. Sam retired from Allied Carpet in Douglasville. He was a Mason and a founding member of Heritage Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Timms, and his son, John Timms; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Sam is survived by his daughter; Janis Timms Bryant and husband, Rick; son, James “Jim” Mark Timms and wife, Lori; daughter-in-law, Vivian Timms; grandchildren; Melissa Barnett and husband Paul, Richard Scott Bryant, John Merrell Timms, Jr. and wife Amy, Lara Timms Abercrombie and husband Mac, Makayla Timms, Heath Timms; 8 great grandchildren; and sister, Betty Nell Moore; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel in Douglasville with Rev. Woodrow Hudson officiating. Interment will follow the service in Rosehaven Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 10, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
