Obituary for H. Louis Campbell, Jr.

Mr. Horace “Louis” Campbell, Jr., age 84, of Douglasville passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 14, 1932, the son of the late Horace Louis Campbell, Sr. and the late Martha Powell Campbell. He graduated from West Fulton High School and joined the United States Marine Corps and served aboard the USS Missouri during the Korean War. While he was still serving in the Marine Corps he met Sara Bowen and they married on May 28, 1954. He would later work as a Shipping Manager for a blue print paper manufacturing company. Following retirement, Louis and his wife Sara joined the staff at Hightower's Family Funeral Homes where they served as a Visitation team until 2014. Louis attended Beulah Baptist Church and was a member of the Grace Sunday School Class.

Louis was a wonderful and adored husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a ‘gentle giant’ who always brought joy and laughter to everyone in his presence—in both good times and tough times. He was his entire family’s “Hero” and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother James Echols.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years, Sara Bowen Campbell; daughters and sons-in-law: Cindy and Gary Yates and Amanda and Bret Jones; sister: Becky Rawlins; brother: Tommy Campbell; grandchildren: David Yates and his wife Gwen, Kristin Nicholas and her husband David, Katie Jones and Cloe' Jones; great grandchildren: Trevor Yates, Dawson Yates and Isabella Grace Nicholas; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.

The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 A.M. in Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff Overton officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronald Seymour, Denny Seymour, Gary McCall, Brian McCall and Vann McCall. Members of the Grace Sunday School Class are asked to assemble and be seated together.

Interment will be Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 1:30 P.M. at Georgia National Cemetery with the United States Marine Corps providing Military Honors. Joshua Olds, Tim Rawlins, Tim Olds, Jason Turner, David Yates, David Nicholas, and Ricky Rawlins will serve as Pallbearers.
