Obituary for Ruby Beatrice McElwaney

Ruby Beatrice Crane McElwaney, age 82, of Douglasville, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019.  “Mama Bea” was the name by which most people knew her.  She was born on August 18, 1936, in Cornelia, Georgia, the daughter of the late Roland Nathaniel “Nat” Crane and the late Ella Flannagan Crane.  She retired from Furniture Craftsmen as an Inventory Manager.  She was a member of Prays Mill Baptist Church where she loved serving in the nursery loving on the babies.  Mama Bea was very family-oriented and dearly loved her husband, children and grandkids. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Waycaster; and her siblings: R.N. Crane, Jr., Bobby Crane, Virginia Ramey, and Jo Nell Coley.

Mama Bea is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Charlie McElwaney of Douglasville; children and their spouses: Sammy and Cecie Hammett of Smyrna, Merriee Miller of Winston, Deborah Gessner of Douglasville, and Tonya and Travis Haines of Whitesburg; grandchildren and their spouses: Jason and Mary Hammett, Jarred Teems, Megan and Jacob Smallwood, Kimberly Gessner, Trenton Haines, Lennon Hammett, Taylor Haines, and Tripp Haines; sister-in-law, Patsy Tuzzo of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel on Monday, April 29, 2019, from 4:00-7:00 P.M.The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. in Hightower’s Chapel with Reverend Ric Blazi officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with her Grandsons: Jason Hammett, Jarred Teems, Jacob Smallwood, Trenton Haines, Lennon Hammett, and Tripp Haines serving as Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, Mama Bea requested contributions be made to Prays Mill Baptist Church, 4979 Highway 5, Douglasville, Georgia 30135, 770-942-6597.
