Obituary for Jimmy McCarty

Jimmy George McCarty, age 74, of the Jake Community of Waco (Carroll County), passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019.  He was born in Douglasville, Georgia on August 20, 1944, the son of the late Ezra Davis McCarty and the late Rose Driver McCarty.  Jimmy worked in the Mop Manufacturing industry for over 40 years.  He worked for a short time for W.L. Goodwin in Douglasville.  The majority of his career was with the Lafitte Mop Company in Villa Rica where he served as Supervisor until his retirement. He was a member of Midway Church.
Jimmy (also affectionately known as “Paw” to certain family members) was introduced to the love of his life, Shirley, by his cousin, Bobby Joe Driver.  Once they met, it was love-at-first-sight! The two were married on March 27, 1970 and, up until his recent health issues, never left one another’s side. The two later became “the fabulous four” by the births of their daughters: Georgette (aka Birdie) and Georgina (aka Binky).  His “girls” were his world.  Every night he would recite, from memory, individual sayings to each of them known as their “P’s & Q’s”.Jimmy loved God and believed in Jesus Christ.  He would pray and read the Bible every morning.  He loved nature and could “see God everywhere”.  Jimmy could predict the weather better than the high-paying folks on television.  He kept a rainfall log to which he added daily measurements from his rain gauge.  He also loved vegetable and flower gardening—especially tomatoes.  He could fix most anything and enjoyed the opportunity to tinker with machinery, etc.  He was a dedicated “Ford Man” and was intrigued by Henry Ford and his excellent brand. He loved to listen to and read about Elvis Presley, but his all-time favorite performer was Carroll Roberson whose clear voice and smooth tone made it easier for him to hear the lyrics.  Paw was a fun-loving person with a huge smile and a big love for laughter. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings: Hazel Smith, “Buddy” McCarty, Rudolph McCarty, Harold McCarty, and Jackie Crawford; sisters-in-laws: Linda Arthur Driver, Ann McCarty; Viola Arthur, and Dot Arthur; brothers-in-law: Ernest Smith, Wayne Crawford, Carl Arthur, Roger Bates and Roger Laney; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Grady and Maggie Garmany Arthur; several nieces, nephews, cousins.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Shirley Arthur McCarty of the Jake Community; daughters and sons-in-law: Georgette and Robbie Robinson of Villa Rica, and Georgina and Andrew Keith of Douglasville; sister and brother-in-law: Nellie and Jimmy Pope of Lithia Springs; grandson: Aaron Robinson of Douglasville; sisters-in-law: Hellin McCarty, Carol McCarty, Bonnie Jean Laney and her companion, Wayne Williams, and Joyce Bates; brother-in-law: Elmer Arthur; several nieces, nephews, cousins.
The family will receive friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel in Douglasville on Saturday, July 27, 2019, from 5:00-8:00 pm.
The Funeral Service will be held Sunday, July 28, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. in Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Brother Bobby Joe Driver officiating.  Music will be recorded selections from Carroll Roberson.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen with Joe Driver, Tommy Driver, Michael Bates, Frank Browning, Haynes Driver, and Ethan Tucker serving as “Paw” bearers. Richard Driver will serve as Honorary “Paw” bearer.
