Obituary for Florence Smith Chapman

Florence Smith Chapman, age 89, of Douglasville, Georgia (Fairplay Community), passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019.  She was born in Douglas County, on July 1, 1930, the daughter of the late Hubert and Vera Smith.  She graduated from Douglas County High School in 1948. Florence began her career in retail management in 1968 with Lamar Shoe Store in Carrollton and later worked for Lamar Clothing in Douglasville until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of New Covenant United Methodist Church (formerly Flint Hill Methodist Church).  Mrs. Chapman loved and enjoyed antiquing, cooking, baking cakes & cookies, gardening and sewing.  Before she started working, she made doll clothing (especially Barbie) and would sell them to her friends and neighbors.  She also made many dresses for her friends and church ladies.  She also loved animals (especially dogs) and had many pet dogs of her own over the years.  She regularly contributed to the A.S.P.C.A. Mrs. Chapman will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Chapman; brother, Ernest Smith; and sister-in-law, Pat Smith.
Florence is survived by her only son and daughter-in-law: Mike and Judy Chapman of Douglasville; brothers and sister-in-law: Larry and Peggy Smith of Temple, Georgia, and Jimmy Smith of Russellville, Alabama; grandchildren: Ellen and Todd Anderson of Winston, Georgia, Michael Chapman of Douglasville, and Allison Chapman of San Francisco, California; great grandchildren: Christian Anderson and Kaitlyn Anderson. 
The family will receive friends at Hightower's Memorial Chapel in Douglasville on Friday, August 9, 2019 beginning at 11:00 AM until the Funeral Service begins at 3:00 PM in Hightower's Chapel with Pastor Mike Shearon and Reverend Tim Constien officiating.
Interment will follow in Historic Heritage Gardens at Flint Hill Cemetery with Michael Chapman, Robert Chapman, Tommy Fountain, Phil Hembree, Danny Pate and Brad Stewart serving as Pallbearers.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenny Campbell, Wylie Copeland, and Gavin Stewart.
