Biography

John F. Norwood, age 86, of Douglasville, passed away, April 30, 2009. He was born on January 17, 1923 in Fulton County the son of the late Edward Howard Norwood and Estus Hewell Norwood. He served in the Anti-Aircraft Division of the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. He worked for Hix Green Buick for forty years as an auto mechanic and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Douglasville. Mr. Norwood loved his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Catherine Kennedy Norwood of Douglasville; daughters and sons-in-law; Linda and Joe Bennett of Loganville, Joan and Gary Barnes of Marietta, Gail and Jimmy Bowen of Villa Rica, and Renee and Tony Olivastri of Marietta; son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Janice Norwood of Fayetteville; niece and spouse, Jeannette and Jerry Wilson of Griffin; sister-in-law, Alma Huey of Greenville, SC; and 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

There will be a Graveside Service held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11:00 am from Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with Elder Jane Hubbard officiating. Mr. Norwood’s Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 2:00 pm from the First Presbyterian Church, Douglasville with Elder Jane Hubbard officiating.

Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.
