Life Legacy
Mary Joan Barclay Gibbs, age 77, of Douglasville, passed away, August 15, 2011. She was born December 25, 1933 in Rome, Georgia to the late John James Barclay and Alice Grace Reid Barclay. Miss Joan retired from the Paid-Notices Obituary Department for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution where she was privileged to work with funeral directors, from virtually every funeral home in north Georgia, making sure obituaries were published correctly. She loved her job and took her responsibilities very seriously. She was noted as the sales person of the year for numerous years during her career dating from 1972 until 2004. She was lovingly known as never having a bad bone in her body, she was very humorous, and always friendly, and never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone. She was a Christian.
Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law: David Anthony and Patty Cook of Villa Rica; daughter: Laura Prince and son, Timothy Prince, both of Douglasville; sisters: Billie Staton of Douglasville, Jane Martin of Tucker and Linda Rowland of Mentone, AL; brother: Pete Barclay of Woodland, AL, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 2:00 PM from the Campbellton Lodge 76 F & AM, SR92, Cross Chattahoochee River, Fulton/Douglas County Line to Church Street.
In accordance with her wishes, her body will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring to do so may make contributions to the Mary Joan Gibbs Memorial Fund c/o Hightower's Memorial Chapel.
