Biography

Mr. Lawrence Nelson Norton, age 90, of Douglasville passed away December 19, 2010. He was born on August 24, 1920 in Douglas County, the son of the late Paul Norton and the late Hazel Truman Miller Norton. He worked until his retirement for the City of Douglasville Sanitation Department as a Supervisor/Truck Driver. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the Douglasville Lodge #289 F. & A. M. He was also a member of the Sweetwater Baptist Church in Douglasville.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his child, Lillian Scoggins Norton; his daughter, Elsie Virginia “Ginny” Norton; his brother, Joe M. Norton; and his current wife, Annie Ruth Blair Norton.

He is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and W. T. Eison and Jean Standridge, all of Douglasville; step children and their spouses, Delores Cohran, Patsy and Lewis Boyd, Roger and Joyce Gray, Jack and Kim Gray and Cindy and Wayne Lanham; 13 step grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 2:00 pm from Hightower’s Memorial Chapel in Douglasville with Reverend Bryan Alexander officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 from 4-8 pm.
