Life Legacy


Mrs. Mary Frances Glenn Maxwell, age 76, of Douglasville, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010. She was born in Cairo, Georgia on November 1, 1933, and was the daughter of the late William Robert Glenn and the late Eva Marie Cupper Glenn. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia.. Her working career included: co-owner of Glenns of Pelham Kindergarten alongside her sister, Naomi: working as a bank teller in Pelham, Georgia; serving as an Administrative Assistant for Emory University, Sales and Service Secretary for Fouts Brothers Datsun and Thornton Chevrolet; Medical Secretary for Dr. Hammonds, Dr. Wakefield and Dr. Gluckman, and most recently, Church Secretary for Roswell Street First Baptist Church. Mrs. Maxwell was a very talented lady whose abilities included singing with the Glee Club and the Andrew Ensemble, as well as playing the piano and performing recitals with her sister, Naomi. She was bestowed with the honor of serving as “Miss Andrew” of 1956 for her college.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarke R. Maxwell, Sr.; her paternal grandparents, Thomas Augustus and Ella West Glenn; and maternal grandparents, Thomas Edgar and Alice Munroe Cupper.

Survivors include her daughter, Eva C. Maxwell and husband, Gary F. Fischer, of Loganville; son, Clarke R. Maxwell, Jr. and wife, Rheta Sue, of Hiram; sisters, Naomi Glenn Oliver and husband, Billy, of Clarkesville; Harriette Glenn Hamrick and husband, Bob, of Monroe and Mariella Glenn Hartsfield of Monroe; grandchildren, Christopher Reynolds Maxwell, Lindsey Sue Maxwell and Arielle Joy Fischer.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Douglasville with Dr. Kevin Williams and Rev. Dr. William L. “Billy” Oliver, Jr. officiating. Musical selections will be rendered by Dr. Danny Koonce.

Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo, Georgia.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M.
