Life Legacy
Ruth Gilbert Owen, age 93 of Andrews, NC, formerly of Asheville, NC, and Douglasville, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010. She was born November 3, 1916 in Toccoa, GA, the daughter of the late Thomas Fremont Gilbert and Myrtle Brown Gilbert. She was a beloved and dedicated Sunday school teacher, a dietician for many years for Hudson Elementary School, professional seamstress for many years and member of The Love Class of Central Baptist Church for thirty five years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Owen; son, Jack Thomas ‘Tommy’ Owen; brother, J.W. Gilbert and son-in-law, Jim Cavin.
Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law; Linda and Jake Buchanan of Andrews, N.C., daughter-in-law and her husband, Patricia Owen-Parris and Charles Parris of Winston, GA; granddaughter and her husband, Diana and Jeff Adams of Ohio, grandson and his wife, Brian and Stephannie Owen of Douglasville; granddaughters and their husbands, Vicki and Greg Whitaker of Winston; Andrea and Scott Gee of Gainesville; step-grandsons and their wives: Charles and Jessica Parris, Jr. of Athens, Christopher and Camila Parris of Arizona; step-granddaughter, Michelle ‘Shelly’ Parris of Jasper, GA; great grandchildren: James and Trudy Moore, Sr., Justin Moore, Amy Moore, Chandler Owen, Carter Owen, Megan Whitaker, Hannah Whitaker, Garrett Gee, Haley Owen-Keese, Taylor Keese; step great grandson, Jace Hayden Parris, step great granddaughter, Kelsie Warren, and great great grandson, James ‘Jimmy’ Moore, Jr.
Graveside Services will be held Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 4:00pm from Central Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Charles Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 2:00 pm until the service hour.
