Obituary for Mildred "Millie" A. Athey

Mildred Arlene “Millie” Athey, age 86, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018.  She was born on September 13, 1931 in Gilmer County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Howard Digman and the late Pearl Digman.  She was retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Manufacturing after more than 30 years of service.  Millie was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia.She was an avid bird lover and has had many exotic birds over the years.  She loved flower gardening.  She also loved photographing birds and flowers.  Millie is survived by her son: Francis Zane Athey, II of Douglasville, Georgia; daughter: Sherri Shephard and her husband, Charles of Cypress, Texas; granddaughters: Ashley Athey, and twins: Kate Woodburn, Angie Woodburn; sisters: Ethel Dobbins of Clarksburg, West Virginia and Charles and Lavonne Digman of Danville, Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis “Sonny” Zane Athey.
The funeral service will be held at Sweetwater Baptist Church at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, 2018 with Reverend Darryl Jones officiating.  A private interment will be held at Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery.
