Obituary for James Thomas "Tommy" Wheeler

James Thomas “Tommy” Wheeler, of Douglasville, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017. He was born on December 19, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia, son of the late William Thomas Wheeler and Opal A. Shelnutt Wheeler. Tommy was a retired Major from the Douglas County Sheriff Department.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Karla Roberts Wheeler; sons: Jeff Wheeler and his wife, Bethany, Will “W.T” Wheeler; granddaughter: Nora Kate Wheeler; brothers and sisters: Joe Wheeler and his wife, Cheryl, Joyce Stone and her husband, Gary, Pamela Williams, Jerry Wheeler and Terry Wheeler, nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, he was cremated and the family will receive friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel, Douglasville, on Wednesday, October 11 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
A memorial service will follow at 6:00 PM in the chapel with Chaplain Della Leyssius with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and Jamie Harrell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes at Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes, Attention: Development Division, P. O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, Ga., 30281, 706-845-9771.
